In a bid to tackle the problem of data scraping and system manipulation, Twitter has taken action by applying reading limits. Elon Musk, the Twitter owner shared the news on Twitter, stating that verified accounts will have a temporary limit of reading up to 6,000 posts per day. Meanwhile, unverified accounts and new unverified accounts will be limited to reading 600 and 300 posts per day, respectively.

But that’s not all! Musk also mentioned that the limits will soon increase. Verified accounts will have an upgraded limit of 8,000 posts, while unverified accounts can enjoy up to 800, and new unverified accounts will have access to 400 posts each day.

This decision follows Twitter’s recent announcement that users will need an account on the platform to view tweets, which Musk referred to as a “temporary emergency measure.” The concern arose due to numerous organizations aggressively scraping Twitter data, causing disruptions in the user experience.

On Saturday, many Twitter users faced issues, including missing timelines, disappeared followers, and difficulties retrieving tweets. Approximately 91,000 people reported problems, with the trends “RIP Twitter” in the Nigeria alone.

Some users encountered an error message stating “rate limit exceeded” when trying to view tweets. However, with the implementation of reading limits, Twitter aims to restore order and ensure a smoother user experience, protecting against data scraping challenges.
